The New Porsche Taycan.

Porsche has wasted no time in 2024 with the release of another updated model range – this time it's the highly-anticipated second generation of the Porsche Taycan.

All three body variants (the sports saloon, Cross Turismo, and Sport Turismo) will feature a number of modifications from their predecessors with each variant possessing four powertrain options, including rear and all-wheel drive.

Improved performance

One of the main changes from the first generation is the improved performance. All the updated models accelerate much faster than their predecessors. For example, the base model Taycan and Taycan Turbo S can accelerate from 0 - 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds and 2.4 seconds, making them 0.6 seconds and 0.4 seconds faster than the previous models.

With the new push-to-pass function* in the Sport Chrono Package, a boost of up to 70 kW, depending on the model, can be called upon for 10 seconds at the touch of a button. The new generation models have a higher system output, with the base Taycan delivering 60 kW more than before and the Taycan Turbo S producing an additional 140 kW with Launch Control, increasing the system output of the top model to 700 kW/952 PS.

Enhanced electric capabilities

Depending on the body variant and engine, the WLTP range has increased to up to 421 miles** - a 35 percent increase. Not only does the updated Taycan require fewer charging stops than its predecessor, but it also recharges faster as it can be charged at up to 320 kW at 800-volt Destination Charging stations – 50 kW more than before. Furthermore, the fast-charging window of the new performance battery has been significantly expanded, meaning that charging capacities of more than 300 kW can now be sustained for up to five minutes.

The first-generation Taycan charged from 10 to 80 percent at 15℃ in 37 minutes, whilst the new-generation Taycan takes just 18 minutes under the same conditions, despite its larger battery capacity. The Performance Battery Plus now has a gross capacity of 105 kWh, increased from 93 kWh.

The maximum recuperation capacity during deceleration from high speeds has now increased by more than 30 percent from 290 kW to 400 kW, therefore cementing its claim as one of the top electric sports car ranges on the planet.

More attractive design

Adding new front and rear-end styling with new headlights and tail lights, the experts at Style Porsche have further developed the clean, purist design of the Taycan. The new front wings and the flatter headlights put greater emphasis on the width of the Taycan.

The new headlights feature high-resolution HD matrix technology with detailed optics, which now display Porsche’s characteristic four-point graphics at night.

The Porsche logo in the rear light strip features a three-dimensional, glass-look design. An illuminated version of this is available for the first time, featuring welcome and leaving animations.

New active chassis

Air suspension now comes as standard on the updated Taycan. This always keeps the body of the car level, even during dynamic braking, steering, and acceleration manoeuvres. In conjunction with the new Porsche Active Ride suspension option, the system absorbs bumps almost completely, ensuring a near-perfect connection to the road because of the balanced distribution of wheel loads.

Updated control and display concept

The new control lever behind the steering wheel allows for more intuitive control of the driver assistance systems.

One of the main additions to the driver’s display is the mode switch on the steering wheel now coming as standard. For the Taycan models that are equipped with the Sport Chrono Package and Performance Battery Plus, the push-to-pass button is found on the mode switch. Meanwhile, the instrument cluster, central display, and optional passenger display feature an optimised user interface with additional functions.

Apple CarPlay has been more deeply integrated into the vehicle displays and functions, whilst the new In-Car Video function enables video streaming on the central display and the passenger display.

Significantly improved equipment

Despite the new models weighing up to 15 kg less, the range of standard equipment is far greater than before. The following features now come as standard:

Ambient lighting, ParkAssist with reversing camera, electrically folding exterior mirrors with mirror surround lighting, heated front seats, Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), heat pump with a new cooling system, smartphone tray for wireless charging, electric charging ports on the driver and front passenger sides, Drive Mode switch, and Power Steering Plus.

All variants also come with aerodynamically optimised wheels and reduced-rolling-resistance tyres as standard.
